MERRY CHRISTMAS
A FAS child (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) is a child who suffers the consequences of a mother who’s drinking during pregnancy. This alcoholisation is the result of a lack of information or an addiction. Children with FAS have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) that affects learning, and social behavior … this for the rest of their lives.
THESE CHILDREN ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR STATE AND ARE CHILDREN AT FIRST !
Even if they are not born under a good star, they have qualities that they can flourish with our help and affection!
To do this, they need early detection and appropriate support. Unfortunately, they lose that hope if health professionals do not make the right diagnosis. They are often reluctant to raise the issue, and ignorance or shame may mean that the mother does not reveal her consumption …
Without diagnosis and care, children with FASD experience insurmountable academic difficulties, are excluded and exposed to delinquency. And during all this time, their biological handicap remains invisible!
Let’s change our guilty gaze. Let us accept to reach out. The collaboration of SAF Indian Ocean is included in the actions of the newly created « FASD Resource Center ».
